Post-Game Notes: APSU vs. Murray State

Post-Game Notes

  • The Govs' victory ended the nation's longest FCS losing streak at 18 games. The Govs last won, Nov. 17, 2012, against Tennessee Tech.
  • The victory also snapped a 10-game Ohio Valley Conference losing streak.
  • Austin Peay snaps a six-game losing streak against Murray State and is now 14-34 all-time vs. the Racers. It is also the first win at Governors Stadium versus Murray State since Nov. 23, 1991.
  • With the 20-13 win, the Governors head coach Kirby Cannon recorded his first victory at Austin Peay.
  • With his first punt of the day, senior Ben Campbell became the school's all-time punt yardage leader, passing J.P. Hogan's mark of 9,773 yards (2000-03).
  • Ben Campbell's five total punt attempts gives him 259 total in his career, which tied him with J.P. Hogan for the most in Austin Peay history.
  • After rushing for 196 yards a week ago, walk-on freshman Otis Gerron got his first college start against Murray State. He finished with 137 rushing yards.
  • With 8:42 left in the second quarter, Ben Campbell boomed a punt from his own 23 that flew past the Murray State return man, stopping on the Racers seven-yard line. The 70-yard punt was a career best.
  • The Govs held a whoppping 37:37-to-22:23 time-of-possession advantage against Murray State.
  • Freshman Mickey Macius completed his first seven passes. His first incompletion was a dropped past late in the second quarter.
  • When Rod Owens intercepted a KD Humphries pass last in the second quarter, it was APSU first turnover forced since Week 2 against Chattanooga.
  • When Mickey Macius fired a 30-yard TD pass to Jared Beard with 2:44 left in the second quarter it was APSU first lead in a game since it held a 31-30 lead against Southeast Missouri with 14:22 left in the fourth quarter in Week 11 of the 2013 season.
  • Jared Beard's three touchdown receptions marks the first time since Devin Stark's three touchdown catches against Tennessee Tech, Nov. 17, 2012.
  • When the Govs held a 7-3 lead against Murray State at intermission, it was their first halftime advantage since holding a 31-0 halftime lead against Tennessee Tech, Nov. 17, 2012.
  • Freshman quarterback Mickey Macius ended the first half 8-of-9 passing for 101 yards.
  • Mickey Macius finished the night completing 18-or-22 passes, good for a 81.8 completion percentage. It marks the first time since Jesse Kellogg finished with an 87.5 completion percentage versus Kentucky Wesleyan (21-of-24), Sept. 27, 2003.
  • The 81.8 completion percentage is also the best by a Governors team since APSU recorded a 75.9 completion percentage versus Bethel, Sept. 1, 2007.
  • The three touchdowns thrown by Mickey Macius marks the first time a Govs quarterback has reached that mark since Jake Ryan threw three TD's versus Jacksonville State on Nov. 10, 2012.
  • Austin Peay first three interceptions this season came from the same person, Rod Owens.
  • Owens two interceptions were the first multiple interception performance by Gov since Jason Vanatta had two against Murray State, Oct. 4, 2008.
  • After scoring no more than seven points in any of its first five games, the 20 points scored versus Murray give the Govs 20-or-more points scored in back-to-back games (21 vs. Mercer 11/11).
  • The 10 tackles by Adam Noble ties for the second most by a Governor this season.
  • Governors entered game minus-six in turnovers this season, but won the turnover battle versus the Racers 5-2.
  • Austin Peay came into the game with only three quarterback hurries, but recorded six versus Murray State.
