Post-Game Notes: APSU vs. Illinois State

  • The 55-6 loss to Illinois State was APSU's 16 straight, the longest in FCS.
  • The Governors now have lost 27 straight road games, the last win coming against Tennessee State, Sept. 18, 2010.
  • With the loss to Illinois State, the Govs have now lost four straight to Missouri Valley Football Conference team.
  •  APSU was 0-2 the last two weeks visiting the Prairie State, losing to Eastern Illinois, 63-7, and this week to Illinois State, 55-6.
  • Freshman walk-on Otis Gerron came off the bench to lead the Govs in rushing with 38 yards on 12 carries. He was instrumental in leading the Govs on their only scoring drive.
  • Austin Peay gained its first first down by penalty with 11:30 left in the second quarter. APSU finished the half with five first downs and 10 for the game.
  • For the third time in four games APSU, with 174 yards, was held to less than 200 yards in total offense
  • Senior wide receiver Javier Booker has been on the receiving end of 45-, 35- and 56-yard receptions this season.  His 56 yarder from Mickey Macius against Illinois State was APSU's longest player from scrimmage this season.
  • After punting 10 times in each of the first three games this season Ben Campbell punted nine times for a 37.1 yard average against Illinois State. Campbell punted a school-record 87 times a year ago and now has 39 punts a third of the way through the schedule this season.
  • For a second straight game a cornerback led the Govs in tackles. A week ago, senior Montez Carlton led APSU with 11 stops against Eastern Illinois. This week, Buddy Mitchell had seven stops against Illinois State.
  • For a second straight week senior defensive tackles Malcolm Goines  had a tackle for loss, this time a quarterback sack.
