Post-Game Notes

  • In falling to 0-7 (0-4 OVC), the Govs now have lost 12 straight games, dating back to the 2014 season.
  • Austin Peay drops to 25-37-5 in the series.
  • Austin Peay now has lost eight straight in the series. It ties for the longest losing streak in the series. It also was the Govs' fifth straight home loss in the series.
  • Even though this was the Govs' first Sgt. York game this season, the defeat assured the Skyhawks the Sgt. York Trophy for the second straight year. Two of the Skyhawks other wins came against Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.  The Skyhawks are now 4-2 on the season, three of the four being OVC and Sgt. York victories.  
  • It took only 1:48 for UT Martin to score the game's first TD as Caylon Weathers hauled in a 22-yard pass from Jarod Neal.  
  • Junior running back Julian Franklin's 37-yard second-quarter TD run was his career's first score. It also represented a career-long run.
  • When Tyler Schneider recorded a second-quarter sack of Jarod Neal it stopped a streak of four straight UT Martin games without permitting a sack.   
  • When Evan Toby had his punt blocked with 57 seconds left it was the fifth time this season the Governors have had a punt blocked. APSU also had field goal blocked earlier in the game, with an 87-yard Jordan Landry return for a TD.
  • When UT Martin's Trent Garland scored on a three-yard TD run with 2:28 left in the first half, fort represented 56th point scored in the opening half's final four minutes in the last five games. In fact, APSU has been outscored 56-0 during those 20 minutes.
  • When sophomore receiver Jared Beard caught a fourth-quarter TD pass from Timarious Mitchell it was his third TD catch this season and seventh for his career.
  • Junior Julian Franklin came off the bench to rush for 102 yards he became the second Gov to rush for 100 or more yards this season. The previous two weeks Kendall Morris ran for 141 and 136 yards, respectively.
  • After rushing for more than 100 yards in the previous two games, redshirt freshman running back Kendall Morris was held to just 10 yards on five carries against UTM.
  • For the second straight game, junior quarterback Timarious Mitchell came off the bench to lead APSU to a TD. In fact, he threw a TD pass for the second straight game and again hooked up with Jared Beard, this time for a 20-yard score.
  • Senior linebacker Adam Noble led the Govs' defense with nine tackles against UT Martin, six being solo stops.
  • Austin Peay converted just 4-of-17 third-down attempts (24 percent) against UT Martin and now has converted 28-of-116 (24.1 percent) for the season. Meanwhile, the opposition has converted 59-of-108 (55 percent) on the season.
  • Senior starting quarterback Trey Taylor finished with 61 yards passing (7-of-20) against UT Martin, making it the third time this season he finished with fewer than 100 yards passing.
  • Rashaan Coleman's 10-yard second-quarter punt return was a career long.
  • Sophomore tight end James Coleman, who entered the season with zero catches, now has five career snags. He had a career-best two catches for 31 yards, including a season-best 17-yard snag.
