Post-Game Notes: APSU vs. Eastern Illinois

  • Nicholis Matiere-Bey's sack (eight yards) of quarterback Jalen Whitlow on the game's second scrimmage play was APSU's first sack of 2015 and the first in six games, dating back to Week 11 of the 2014 season. For the day, Bey was credited with 2.5 tackles for loss 12 yards.
  • Trey Taylor's 25-yard first-quarter run was APSU's longest scrimmage play since Rashaan Coleman'44-yard TD catch against Southern Mississippi in Week 2 (Sept. 12).
  • Kendall Morris; 74-yard TD run was APSU's longest run since Otis Gerron had an 89 yarder against Mercer, Oct. 11, 2014.
  • Morris finished the first half with 134 rushing yards, making him the first Gov to break the century mark this season and the first since Otis Gerron had 114 yards against Tennessee Tech in the 2014 season finale, Nov. 22, 2014. Morris ended the game with 141 yards on 24 carries. It was the redshirt freshman's first 100-yard rushing game.

  • Jule Pace picked up a third-quarter punt block behind the Govs' line of scrimmage and raced 50 yards down left sideline to the EIU 30 for a first down. It was APSU's second longest "play from scrimmage," behind Morris' 74-yard TD run.

  • Austin Peay finished the game with 41 yards passing, the fewest passing yards since they had 31 against Jacksonville State, Nov. 1, 2014.
  • The six Taylor completions were the fewest by the Govs since they had five (14 attempts) at EIU, Sept. 20, 2014.
  • The 27 first downs recorded by Eastern Illinois were the most tallied by an opponent this season, one more than Vanderbilt.
  • The 521 yards total offense Eastern Illinois recorded was the second most recorded against the Govs this season, only behind Vanderbilt's 541.
  • After opening the season converting a respectable 7-of-15 third-down opportunities, the Governors since have made just 8-of-47 (17 percent) since, including 3-of-16 (19 percent) against Eastern Illinois.
  • APSU had its fourth punt blocked this season in the third period. Luckily, the Govs recovered the ball behind the line of scrimmage and Jule Pace raced with it 50 yards, turning the negative play into a positive.
