Postgame Notes: Austin Peay vs. Samford

  • Austin Peay earned its third win of the season, Saturday, defeating Samford 74-73 at the Dunn Center.
  • Despite being outscored 43-32 in the second half, the Governors held on to earn its third consecutive win. It's the first three-game winning streak since 2013.
  • APSU head coach Dave Loos is now 13-7 all-time against Samford dating back to when the Bulldogs were a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
  • Austin Peay's starters combined to score 63 of its 74 points.
  • Junior forward Kenny Jones led the Govs with 23 points (10-of-12), a career-high for the newcomer. Eighteen of his points came in the first half.
  • Sophomore Josh Robinson scored 15 points, 10 of which came in the second half, including a key layup and free throws in the closing seconds to give APSU a four point lead.
  • Senior swingman Khalil Davis played the full 40 minutes, totaling 13 points and seven rebounds.
  • Senior center Chris Horton recorded his fifth double-double of the year (12 points, 14 rebounds). He also tied a season-high in blocks with four.
  • Off the bench, redshirt freshman Chris Porter-Bunton provided a spark in the first half with six points, matching his career-best.
  • Despite being held to no points, junior Terrell Thompson played 34 minutes at the point guard position, posting a career-high five assists.
  • The Bulldogs held a lead at the 18:22 mark in the first half, but APSU controlled the contest from that point forward, leading the rest of the way.
  • Austin Peay shot a season-low 58 percent (15-of-26) at the free throw line.
