Post-Game Notes: APSU vs. SEMO

Post-Game Notes

Austin Peay vs. Southeast Missouri

  • Saturday's game against SEMO was the last home appearance for nine Govs seniors: Quarterback Trey Taylor, quarterback Tay Mullins, safety Mikhail Creech, defensive back Coty Eanes, offensive lineman Bernard Gauldin, defensive end Corey Teague, linebacker Adam Noble, defensive lineman John Houston Jr. and kicker/punter Evan Toby.
  • In honor of Veterans Day and to salute the military, Austin Peay wore camouflage jerseys. It is the second straight year they have done so. However, this year the Governors didn't include the different unit nicknames on the back, which was in violation of NCAA Rule 1, Article 5 regarding proper numerals and lettering. APSU was assessed a timeout for every quarter they worse those jerseys last year.
  • Major General Gary J. Volesky, Commanding General of the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) and Ft. Campbell, administered the game's coin toss with a commemorative 101st Airborne Division coin.
  • Austin Peay drops to 0-10 on the season, 0-7 in the OVC.
  • Austin Peay's 15-game losing streak is the longest in the nation. The Governors have not won since the Govs defeated Murray State, 20-13, Oct. 15, 2014.
  • The Governors now have lost six straight in the series and nine consecutive in Clarksville to the Redhawks. APSU last won in Clarksville during the 1991 season, when SEMO still was known as the Indians. This also was SEMO's first road win of 2015.
  • After holding their own in time of possession in the first half--owning a 15:29 to 14:31 advantage--the Governors were dominated (10:56 to 19:04) in time of possession in the second half, As a result, APSU had only five second-half first downs (11 in the first half) and just 58 yards total offense in the final 30 minutes.
  • Timarious Mitchell made his fourth career start at quarterback and first since he started the Southeast Missouri game, Nov. 16, 2013.
  • Mitchell also threw his first TD pass since 2013 to James Coleman on the opening drive. The 13-yard TD catch was the sophomore tight end's first score.
  • A pair of Governors personal foul penalties kept SEMO's second first-quarter drive alive. Eventually, the Redhawks took advantage of the Governors miscues to take a 7-6 lead.
  • Rashaan Coleman's 18-yard second-quarter punt was a career high. His previous best was a 10-yarder earlier this season against UT Martin.
  • When Kendall Morris scored a second-quarter TD against SEMO it was the first time since the Tennessee State game, Nov. 8, 2014, when APSU scored two or more TDs in the first half.
  • Timarious Mitchell finished the first half with 141 yard passing, the Governors first time to crack 100 passing yards for a game since the Murray State game, Oct. 10.  Mitchell finished with 160 yards as a third-quarter concussion forced him from the game.
  • Mitchell's 160 passing yards were a career high, surpassing his 100 yards totaled against Murray State, Oct. 26, 2013.
  • Junior safety Devon Jones finished with 12 tackles, including six solo stops, It was his second double-digit tackle performance this season, the first coming at Eastern Kentucky, Sept. 26. Included in Jones performance against SEMO was 2.5 tackles for loss, highlighted by a 10-yard sack.
  • Sophomore Jeremiah Mitchell tallied a career-high eight stops against SMO, all being solo stops.
  • Junior cornerback Roderick Owens was third on the team in tackles with six, including five solos, while also collecting two pass breakups.
  • APSU entered the game with only six sacks but recorded two—one each from Byron Carver and Devon Jones—against SEMO.
  • After tallying 203 first-half yards, the Governors could muster just 58 second-half for 261 total.
  • APSU was charged with eight penalties for 85 yards while SEMO had seven for 81.
  • After playing SEMO to a 24-15 first-half score, the Governors were outscored 20-0 in the final half.
  • Redshirt freshman Kendall Morris led the Governors with 71 yards rushing (14 carries), but only 30 in the second half.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Wesley Thomas finished the game with three catches for 40 yards, a season-high for yards. His 13.3 yards per catch represented the first this season he averaged more than 10 yards per reception. He averaged 13.1 yards per catch as a freshman a year ago.
  • Fellow sophomore Jared Beard finished with four catches for 92 yards, his 66-yard second-quarter catch and run leaving him just outside the one-yard line. However, the Govs only ended with a field goal out of the play.
  • APSU quarterbacks were sacked five times by SEMO for minus 33 yards.
