Post-Game Notes: Austin Peay vs. Eastern Illinois

  • The loss drops Austin Peay to 7-18 overall and 2-9 in the OVC.
  • It's the fifth-straight loss for the Govs, all coming at the Dunn Center during a two week homestand.
  • It's the first victory by Eastern Illinois over the Govs since Jan. 18, 2014, with APSU leading the all-time series 26-16.
  • Senior forward Chris Freeman scored a team-high 20 points, his highest scoring total since Dec. 31 (23 points vs. North Florida). Freeman also tied for the team lead in rebounds with nine.
  • Junior center Chris Horton added 12 points, nine rebounds against the Panthers in 40 minutes.
  • APSU equaled its worst shooting performance of the season (18-for-54, 33 percent), including an abysmal 2-of-14 from three-point territory.
  • The 55 points scored by the Govs is the second-lowest total this season.
  • Inside the paint, APSU held a sizable advantage, out-rebounding the Panthers 36-24. The Govs also had 16 second-chance points.
  • EIU's 5-7 guard Cornell Johnston never missed in the contest (20 points, 7-for-7 FGs, 4-of-4 3FGs, 2-of-2 FTs).
  • The Govs rallied back to tie the game with 11:38 to go in the second half after forcing the Panthers into a six minute scoring drought.
  • However, the deficit was pushed out to 10 points by the 3:44 mark, and the Panthers pulled away from there.
