Austin Peay vs. Vanderbilt Postgame Notes

  • Austin Peay falls to 0-3 on the season, extending its losing streak to eight games.
  • For the season, APSU has been outscored 127-20 by Mercer, Southern Miss and Vanderbilt.
  • The loss in Nashville stretched APSU's road losing drought to 33 games, longest in Division I.
  • The Governors have now lost 10 consecutive games against non-OVC competition, the last coming vs. Culver-Stockton in 2012.
  • Vanderbilt improves to 2-0 against Austin Peay all-time, outscoring the Govs 85-10 in the two meetings. In addition, the Commodores have posted 983 total yards in the two games combined.
  • Vandy gained 26 first downs in the contest, the most against Austin Peay this year. On the flip side, the Govs had just nine, the lowest total since Jacksonville State last season.
  • Senior quarterback Trey Taylor gave Austin Peay a 7-3 lead after a 14-yard touchdown to junior Rashaan Coleman in the second quarter. It's the third touchdown for Taylor this season and second for Coleman.
  • From there, Vandy scored 44 unanswered points to earn the victory.
  • Quarterback Johnny McCrary passed for 368 yards, and finished with over 400 total yards, the most APSU has allowed a single player to gain this season.
  • Trent Sherfield's 240 receiving yards is the most allowed by Austin Peay since 2001 against Charleston Southern. He also set a single-game record for most receiving yards in VU history.
  • Austin Peay has now won the turnover battle in both games against Vanderbilt after no giveaways, Saturday.
  • The Govs were 3-for-15 on third down, while Vandy was 9-for-14 with 6-of-7 redzone chances converted into points.
  • Defensively, junior Donovan Jackson led the team in tackles with eight, a career-best.
  • In addition, junior Roderick Owens tied a career-high in stops with seven, while junior Devon Jones emerged in the secondary with seven tackles.
  • APSU tied its season-high in punts with 10, with senior Evan Toby's longest going for 53 yards.
