Postgame Notes: Austin Peay vs. UT Martin

  • For the second time this season, Austin Peay State University men's basketball team lost on an overtime buzzer-beater, falling to UT Martin 85-84.
  • The most recent heartbreaker came against Eastern Illinois, Jan. 23, as the Panthers drove the distance to drop in a layup. Saturday, it was a three-pointer by Jacolby Mobley which downed the Governors.
  • APSU led by 11 with 5:29 remaining in regulation, but the Skyhawks kept chipping away, with a pair of three-pointers under the two minute mark cutting the deficit to two points.
  • Consecutive layups by UT Martin closed the second half, sending the game to overtime. It's Austin Peay's third overtime contest this season, all coming in Ohio Valley Conference play.
  • Sophomore guard Josh Robinson and UTM's Alex Anderson traded three-points with under a minute left in overtime before senior Chris Horton went to the line for two free throws. He made 1-of-2, giving Mobley the opening to make the game-winning shot.
  • Horton finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, the 21st double-double this season and 57th of his career.
  • Robinson scored 18 points with five rebounds and four assists. He also went 6-of-6 at the line and made two three-pointers.
  • Junior forward Kenny Jones stepped up as Horton battled foul trouble throughout the night, adding 18 points and 10 rebounds for his second-straight double-double.
  • Senior Khalil Davis became the fourth Gov in double figures with 11 points in 34 minutes on the floor.
  • On the glass, the Skyhawks won the rebounding battle by a slight margin (41-40), but 18 of those were offensive boards which led to 24 second chance points.
  • The Govs led 37-24 at halftime, but allowed UT Martin to total 49 points in the second half.
