CLARKSVILLE—Austin Peay State University men's basketball alumni continue to impress on an international level, with several Governors enjoying excellent seasons in 2015-16.
Chief among them is former Governor point guard Derek Wright. Wright, the point guard for Fribourg Olympic of the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNBA), led his squad to regular season and tournament titles, earning All-LNA first-team honors and winning Guard of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Wright averaged 14.1 points and 5.4 assists for Fribourg, adding 2.3 steals and hitting 49.1 percent from the floor.Â
Wesley Channels, Wright's former backcourt mate, is doing well for himself in Hungary. The combo guard averaged 15.7 points and 3.9 assists per game, hitting 40.0 percent from beyond the arc and making a team-high 2.2 three-pointers per game for Egis Kormend; the Governor great led his squad to the FIBA Europe Cup after a third-place finish in Hungary's A-Division standings.
Drake Reed continues to do well for himself, now in France's ProB league with Evreux. He scored 14.2 points and pulled in 5.6 rebounds, hitting 49.5 percent of his shots from the floor. The Clarksville native coaxed Evreux to a third-place league finish and an appearance in the ProB finals.
Closer to home, Adrian Henning wintered in Mexico, first for Fuerza Regia Monterrey, averaging 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds and hitting 51.6 percent from the floor for two months. After Christmas, he moved over to Halcones Rojos de Veracruz and saw a significant uptick in his production, averaging 14.7 points and 6.7 rebounds over his final 19 contests.
South of the equator, Caleb Brown scored 12.4 points and dished out 3.7 assists per game over 19 contests for Macae of the NBB in Brazil.
International rosters are notoriously hard to find sometimes, stats even more so. Feel like we left someone out? Drop me a line at wilsonrc@apsu.edu and I'll try to find them for the next update.
