HEAR FROM JUNIOR CORNERBACK KEAWVIS CUMMINGS

FROM THE TOP

  • Austin Peay overcame a 17-point deficit, scoring 24 consecutive points to secure its seventh win of 2017.
  • It is the largest deficit overcome for a win since APSU overcame an 18-point deficit against Tennessee State for a 37-34 victory, Oct. 1, 2011
  • The 31 points scored against Eastern Kentucky were the most by an Austin Peay team against EKU in program history.
  • It is Austin Peay's second win all time in Richmond, Kentucky a feat only previously accomplished by the 1977 OVC Championship team.

CAPTAINS/COIN TOSS

  • Nickelback Malik Boynton and quarterback JaVaughn Craig were the captains.
  • Eastern Kentucky won the toss and elected to receive the kick.
  • The Governors are 5-6 on coin tosses this season.

SERIES UPDATE

  • Austin Peay won for just the second time in Richmond, Kentucky, the win coming in the 50th meeting between Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky.
  • The Govs ended a streak of 15 straight losses at Roy Kidd Stadium.
  • Austin Peay also snapped a five-game losing streak against Eastern Kentucky, their last win coming in Clarksville during the 2011 campaign.
  • Austin Peay has now scored 31 and 30 points in back-to-back seasons against Eastern Kentucky, the top two point totals against the Colonels in program history.

MORE ABOUT WINS

  • Austin Peay won its seventh game of the season, its most wins since the 2007 season.
  • It also was the Govs sixth OVC victory, equaling the school record set by the 1961 and 1977 teams (both 6-1).

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • The Governors five scores all came from different players. Ahmaad Tanner and Jeremiah Oatsvall each ran for a score, Kyran Moore and DJ Montgomery each caught a touchdown and Cole Phillips kicked a field goal.
  • After being held to 152 first-half yards, the Govs blew up for 291 second-half yards – 129 on the ground and 132 through the air.
  • Jeremiah Oatsvall was 6-for-7 passing in the second half for 132 yards – an average of 22 yards per reception – including touchdown throws of 59 yards to Kyran Moore and 17 yards to DJ Montgomery.
  • On the game-winning drive, Austin Peay had seven rushes and one pass for the eight-play, 62-yard drive. Moore (1 rush, 8 yards), Oatsvall (2-26), Ahmaad Tanner (3-22) and Kentel Williams (1-2) each had carries.
  • Austin Peay scored on each of its final three drives, Oatsvall leading the team on scoring drives of eight-plays and 91 yards for a touchdown, eight-plays and 52 yards for a game-tying field goal and eight-plays and 62 yards for the game-winning score.

DEFENSIVE STANDS

  • Austin Peay's defense limited Eastern Kentucky to 68 second-half offensive yards – 22 on the ground and 46 through the air.
  • Eastern Kentucky did not score on its final six drives. APSU forced a three-and-out on three consecutive possessions and four of those final six drives, allowing EKU to run just 21 plays down the stretch.
  • Gunnar Scholato disrupted EKU's first drive of the fourth quarter, picking up a 10-yard sack and then nearly intercepting a pass on the next play to help force a punt with the Govs trailing by a field goal.
  • After the Govs tied the game, Corey Brown was held and hurried the quarterback to start the drive. Three plays later, Malik Davis broke up a pass to force an EKU punt.
  • On EKU's final drive, Keawvis Cummings broke up a pass to start the drive (Shaun Whittinghill earning a hurry) and then intercepted a pass in the end zone to end the final threat.
  • Cummings and Jeremiah Mitchell each had two pass breakups and the Govs finished with six breakups, their most since the Morehead State contest this season.
  • The victory-sealing interception by Cummings was the Govs first since the UT Martin contest and seventh this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Cole Phillips made a 42-yard game-tying field goal in the fourth quarter. It was only his second field goal attempt this season and first appearance since the Week 2 contest at Miami (Ohio) when he converted a 37-yard attempt.
  • Kyran Moore's 25-yard kickoff return in the third quarter helped set up the Govs first scoring drive of the second half.
  • Daryl Rollins-Davis had a 23-yard kickoff return to help set up the Govs first scoring drive of the game.
