Ed Inman arguably is the best pitcher in Governors’ history. His incredible performance in the 1971 season not only led APSU to its first OVC baseball crown but the University’s first Ohio Valley Conference title in any sport. As team captain, he posted an 8-1 record with a remarkable 1.26 earned-run average, still the lowest in school history. In leading the Govs to a University-best 38-12 record, Inman permitted just 46 hits and 19 walks in 71.3 innings. He threw a school record four shutouts that season and still owns the career record (six) for that category. The Linton, IN native was named “Player of the Year for his efforts along with second-team All-America honors. As a junior, Inman was an impressive 5-2 with a 2.29 ERA. As a sophomore he was 3-2 for a team that won just seven games. In his career, Inman spent four years teaching high school math before entering sales in the Lexington, KY area, first working for a beer distributor and then orthopedic sales. For the past two years, Inman has served as minority owner and general manager of Digital Trax Music. He also serves as host to the weekly “’Mr. Ed’ Music Trivia Radio Show” in Lexington.
