A native of Palatka, Fla., Tommy Dobbs migrated north to Austin Peay on the advice of former prep teammates and developed into one of the school’s best offensive linemen. His career spanned from 1963, when the Govs won just one contest, through 1966, where the Govs posted 8-1-1, 8-1 and 6-4 marks. Dobbs lettered all four season and was a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference choice. He served as co-captain (along with John Ogles) in 1966. He was named to the Nashville Banner All-Area College Team and later was selected to the Nashville Banner Team of the Decade for the 1960s. Dobbs received his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 1966. He joined the Army shortly thereafter and served three years, including a tour in Vietnam. He also played for the Fort Huachuca (Arizona) Army team that went undefeated in 1970. He was honorable discharged in 1971 and then traveled the country for almost three years. Dobbs worked at Disney World when the gates opened and then in 1973 he became a U.S. Post Office distribution and window clerk. He is an avid jogger and has participated in the Florida Folk Festival for the past years as a story teller and animal impressionist. He is married to the former Cathy Moody.
