LOUISVILLE—Austin Peay State University men's cross country team performed well at Saturday's Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. Each Governor who ran at UAH Chargers Open cut down on their eight-kilometer time in the Greater Louisville Classic, and the remaining Govs posted season-bests at that distance.
The Greater Louisville Classic consisted of 412 runners in the Middle (Blue) 8k race at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, which was easily the biggest meet of the season so far for the Governors.
Senior
Wesley Gray led the way for the Governors and placed 54th with a time of 25:73.3. The next runner to cross the line for the Govs was
Hezron Kiptoo with a time of 26:20.3 (86th). Sophomore
Thomas Porter finished at 26:42.2 (126th).
Junior
Tyler Smith barely missed the 27-minute barrier as he recorded 27:03.0 and placed 167th.
Nash Young crossed the finish line less than 17 seconds after Smith as Young timed 27:19.1 (203rd). Next for the Govs was
Daniel Davis (28:13.60, 297th), followed by
Andrew Abel as he timed 28:21.4 and placed 312th. The final Governor to cross the finish line was
Joseph Redman as he placed 343rd with the time of 28:47.7.
Head Coach Doug Molnar was impressed by his veteran-led team and gave high praise towards Young and Smith.
"They (Smith and Young) had horrible starts and were back in over 250th place and moved over 100 places to get season bests," said Coach Molnar. "Lots of improvements again this week and we're going in the right direction for sure."
The Governors will have a break next week but will be back in action in Evansville, Indiana Oct. 13th at the Evansville Invitational.
