Lauren Henderson got the experience of a lifetime in February when she competed for a spot on the United States Women's National Volleyball team in Colorado Springs.
Henderson, a 6-0 middle blocker, concluded her career by earning a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference all-conference and all-tournament teams. During OVC play, she led all blockers with 75 stops, averaging 1.27 per set. She also ranked fourth in both service aces (21, 0.36 per set) and points scored (3.79 per set) while finishing fifth in attack percentage (.326).
She tried out for a squad helmed by the legendary Karch Kiraly, coming off a silver-medal winning turn at the 2012 London Olympics and one of the favorites for gold at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games.
More than 240 athletes representing schools from the SEC, ACC and Pac-12, among other prestigious conferences, participated in the tryout. Henderson, Tennessee Tech's Courtney Smith and incoming Murray State freshman Kaitlyn Embry represented the OVC.
