Women's Basketball By Colby Wilson

Postgame Notes: Austin Peay vs. SIU Edwardsville (OVC Tournament)

  • This was the first time APSU has been in the OVC tournament since the 2011-12 season.
  • SIUE swept all three games this season and now has won four straight against the Lady Govs as APSU falls to 3-7 in the series.
  • The loss drops Carries Daniels' APSU and all-time record to 98-177.
  • The loss also dropped Daniels to 9-4 all-time in the OVC tournament.
  • With her game-opening three pointer senior guard Kristin Stainback became the 18th Lady Gov in history to reach 1,000 career points. She finished with 1,016 career points, three behind former teammate Meghan Bussabarger (2009-13) for 16th all-time
  • APSU was out-rebounded by SIUE, 45-33, 28-13 in the second half.
  • SIUE grabbed 14 of its 18 offensive rebounds in the second half, leading to 11 points.
  • SIUE's offensive rebounding help offset the Lady Govs' 45 to 39 field-goal percentage advantage.
  • Leading scorer Tiasha Gray picked up three first-half fouls and then her fourth with 12:56 left in the second half. As a result, Gray sat 12 crucial minutes. Still she finished with 16 points and a game-leading eight assists.
  • Coming into the game average a nation-leading 3.76 steals, Gray, the OVC's Defensive Player of the Year, was limited to just steal, greatly because of foul issues.
  • In her final college game, Kristen Stainback, who hit a trio of first-half three pointers, ended with a team-high 17 points.
  • Tiasha Gray's 21.2 scoring average in 2014-15 is the third highest in Lady Govs' history behind Brooke Armistead's 22.2 ppg (2001-02) and her 22.1 ppg (2000-01).
  • One of only nine Lady Govs to record 200 single-season field goals, Gray's 223 field goals left her tied for fourth all-time with Gerlonda Hardin.
  • Gray's 171 assists this season were the third-best single-season assists in program history.
  • Not only did she obliterate the single-season steals mark (110) but Gray now ranks third (233) all-time behind Tracie Mason (243) and Kelly Chavez (242) with one season remaining her APSU career.
  • Gray became only the third Lady Gov in history to finish with more than 1100 minutes played. Her 1118 ranked only behind Kelly Chavez's 1156 (2000-01).
  • Thanks largely to junior Jennifer Nwokocha (10 points) and sophomore April Rivers (10), Austin Peay's 22 bench points were its best since Feb. 7 against Murray State.
  • Stainback's 110 career three-pointers made left her ninth all-time in that category.
  • Austin Peay finished the season 2-13 in games when they lost the rebounding battle by five or more to their opponent.
