Post-Game Notes: APSU vs. Eastern Kentucky

  • The Govs now have lost 17 straight games. APSU has not won since downing Tennessee Tech, 38-31, Nov. 17, 2012.
  • The Govs falls to 0-2 in the OVC. They now have lost 11 consecutive league games, the last win coming against Tennessee Tech, Nov. 17, 2012.
  • Austin Peay falls to 4-43 all-time against Eastern Kentucky.

  • Austin Peay falls to 4-43 all-time against Eastern Kentucky.
  • Austin Peay was shutout for the second time this season. The Govs were shutout by Memphis, 63-0, in the season opener.  
  • An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by the Govs led to EKU's first score, a 35-yard Andrew Lloyd field goal. An interception deep in APSU's territory led to the Colonels' first TD.
  • APSU's offensive struggles continued in the first half against EKU. The Govs finished the first quarter with only nine yards total offense. They had only 66 for the half.
  • With six minutes left in the second quarter the Govs crossed midfield for the first time on a 12-yard pass from freshman quarterback Mickey Macius to senior wide receiver Javier Booker.
  • With his seventh punt of the first half, senior punter Ben Campbell broke Jimmy Hardie's mark (241) for second most career punts with 241. He finished the night with 11 punts.
  • Austin Peay's defense forced EKU to punt five times in the first half, the most by a Govs opponent this season. The previous best was three by Chattanooga, Sept. 13.
  • With 5.8 seconds left in the half, Bennie Coney wound up and threw a 42-yard Hail Mary pass to Jeff Glover to give the Colonels a 17-0 halftime lead.  
  • Even with the Hail Mary pass, APSU limited EKU to 186 yards total offense in the first half. For the game, the Colonels had 354 yards, the second fewest allowed by APSU this season.
  • The Govs converted just 2 of 13 third-down opportunities (15 percent). APSU entered the game with just 10 of 61.  
  • The Govs ran off three consecutive 20-yard plays at third quarter's end that totaled a combined 75 yards. The Govs had a total of 66 yards in the first half.
  • Ben Campbell's 11 punts against EKU were a career high. He had punted 10 times on five occasions previously, including the first three 2014 games.
  • A pair of sophomores led the defensive effort. Safety Damien Whitfield finished with 10 stops as did linebacker Antonio Turner. Turner also had two tackles for loss.
