2013-14 Top 10: Robles shines all over the diamond

Alex Robles

Baseball | July 11, 2014

Alex Robles had a very good freshman year by just about any standard.

The Tucson, Arizona native was among the best two-way players in the nation as a freshman, hitting a team-high .349 with 39 RBI in the field and posting a 6-2 record and 3.63 ERA as Austin Peay's No. 1 starter. He twirled a one-hitter at Belmont and struck out a career-high 13 against Eastern Kentucky in back-to-back starts in April and his 12-game hitting streak from March 22-April 6 was a team-best.

So it's no surprise Robles earned postseason accolades far and wide, beginning with the Ohio Valley Conference Rookie of the Year honor, in addition to second-team All-OVC and All-Freshman team honors. He was the second Gov to take Rookie of the Year honors, behind Rowdy Hardy (2004), and joined Ridge Smith as the first Austin Peay teammates to earn all-conference honors as freshmen in program history.

Robles was one of five to earn Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America honors, the most nationally and an Austin Peay record. He also was tabbed as a First-Team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), first-team Freshman All-American by Baseball America and second-team Freshman All-American by PerfectGame.org.
