Nine Governors Earn All-PFL South
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.--Nine Governors have been named to the first Pioneer Football
League South All-Conference team.
Senior quarterback Brian Baker, senior wide receiver Ron Blair, junior running back Jay
Bailey, senior tight end Mike Ogg and sophomore offensive tackle Avery Fleming were named
to the PFL South offensive team while junior defensive end Mark McClintock, senior middle
linebacker Dustin Wilson, junior free safety Thomas Sexton were selected to the defensive
team with sophomore punter J.P. Hogan selected to the specialty team. In addition, senior wide
receiver Mike Farrell, senior defensive tackle Bill Noll and sophomore kicker Justin Deardorff
were selected honorable mention in a vote of league South Division coaches. A North Division
team also was selected by the north coaches.
Baker, who broke nearly all APSU passing records during his four years, led a PFL
offensive team that saw him complete 148 of 239 passes (61.9 percent) for 1881 yards. He
suffered a broken leg during the opening drive of the season's ninth game, abruptly ending his
standout senior season that saw him toss 16 touchdown passes..
Blair proved to be his favorite target when the Govs got close to the end zone. He
capped his final APSU season by first earning a starting and then going out to catch 11 TD
passes, tying the 1967 school record originally set by the legendary Harold "Red" Roberts.
Battling injuries all season, Bailey still rushed for 569 yards (4.21 ypr) with seven TDs
while catching 14 passes out of the backfield while often splitting time with senior Brandon
Garner.
Ogg moved into the starting role as a senior at tight end after sharing the duties with
Daniel Herndon for more than two seasons. He finished with a career-best 16 catches for 160
yards. However, he was more known for his hard-nosed approach up front, in particular aiding
the running game with his blocking.
Meanwhile, Fleming, after playing an assortment of offensive and defensive positions as
a freshman, was moved to tackle last spring. It proved to be an excellent fit as he consistently
graded out as APSU's best lineman all season long.
Defensively, Wilson became the first Gov in nearly three decades to record three
straight 100-tackle seasons, finishing with 111 as a senior. His 11.1 tackle-per-game average
led the PFL. He capped off his senior season with an 18-tackle effort at Davidson in the sea-
son finale.
McClintock, meanwhile, proved solid all season long at the end spot. Among his 35
tackles, nine were for losses, including two quarterback sacks and a pair of interceptions.
Sexton, meanwhile, overcame a serious knee surgery suffered a year ago to finish with
a team-best five interceptions and eight pass break ups. He also counted 44 tackles to his
name, splitting time between strong and free safety.
Hogan, meanwhile, was third in PFL in punting, averaging 38.8 yards per kick but also
had 20 punts downed inside the 20. Sports Information Office
