CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University head men's tennis coach Ed Dickson feels good about the future of
Governors tennis, opening the spring signing period with Nicholas (Nick) Gallauer, of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Gallauer, who is nationally-ranked 129th and ranked 58th in Florida, owns an impressive juniors career. His father, Hans
Gallauer, is a teaching pro at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort, in St. Petersburg, and has been instrumental in his success. The
left-hander is an all-court player with a classic lefty serve.
"Recruiting a kid whose dad is a teaching pro means he's going to be a real `gym rat'," said Dickson. "He loves tennis and
he's rapidly improving. He's going to play here, but our fall lineup is going to be determined by how he looks in the fall. I do know
he's going to be a big asset in singles and doubles here."
Gallauer's junior experience has consisted mostly of USTA sectionals in Florida, where he currently sits at 21-21 in tourna-
ment play. Highlights of his spring include coming from behind to defeat No. 80 Mark Oljaca in three sets to advance to the
consolation quarterfinals of the Big Hitters Spring Sectional and winning the Pete Wolfberg 16th Annual Championships as the
No. 2 seed.
He is currently playing the No. 1 singles spot at St. Petersburg High School. The Green Devils recently won the District V
championship, with Gallauer earning a state tournament berth in both the singles and doubles competition. They will compete
in the region tournament, Thursday, with a chance to participate in the state tournament as a team as well.
