BREMERTON, Wash. ? An inability to get under par finally caught up to
Justin Metzger at the 81st U.S. Amateur
Public Links Championship, as he suffered a 6 & 5 defeat to Kevin Larsen, of Santa Barbara, Calif., in the Round of 32,
Thursday.
Metzger, a rising senior on the Austin Peay State University men's golf team, broke par on just one hole in
Wednesday's round and could not break par in Thursday's round. He halved the match's first three holes before a pair of
pars and a bogey put him three-down after six holes. Metzger was able to get one hole back on the seventh, but quickly
lost the next four holes to fall six-down after 11 holes and could not recover.
It is the second consecutive year Metzger has advanced to the Round of 32 and he has been eliminated in the round
both times.
