CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's track and field team will travel to Southern Illinois this
weekend to compete in the 2007 McDonald's Invitational at the Southern Illinois Recreational Center in Carbondale, Ill.
"We're looking forward to getting back into action this week," said head coach
Doug Molnar. "There will be some
quality teams in this meet, so we'll have to be at the top of our game. The good news for us is that this has been our best
week of practice since we got back from break."
Among the 13 teams competing are host Southern Illinois and Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State and
Tennessee-Martin
"We've improved in a lot of areas and I think it will show on Saturday," said Molnar. "Coach (Adrian) Wheatley has
really gotten after our sprinters and jumpers this week, and I think we should see some dramatic improvement in that
area, in particular."
The field athletes, particularly
Ashley Genslak and Jen Pond, have started the year off strongly and look to continue
that this week. The track athletes have started out slower, but are hungry to prove themselves at this meet.
"We are looking for the 1600-meter relay team to post a season-best by a significant amount this week," said Molnar.
"Our field-event people have been ahead of our runners, but we expect our runners to start catching up performance-wise
this week."
