NASHVILLE?Grant Leaver, a rising senior at Austin Peay State University, has advanced to the final two rounds of the 92nd Tennessee Amateur Championship, being played at the Belle Meade Country Club.
Leaver enters the final 36 holes?18 to be played Thursday and the final 18 Friday?tied for sixth place at two-under after shooting 70 on Monday and par 72 on Tuesday on the 6885-yard layout. Murfreesboro's Spencer Provow leads the event at 10-under 134.
This year's 550 entries were narrowed to a final field of 154 players following nine regional qualifiers across the state. The field was then whittled to 60 after the first 36 holes were played Monday and Tuesday, respectively, with plus-seven, 151, serving as the cut line.
Three other Governors didn't fare as well as Leaver, a Centerville native.
Senior Luke Ladd shot 152 (77-75), missing by one shot of surviving the cut. Rising junior Matt Coles shot an opening-round 75 but ballooned to 82, Tuesday, for a 157 total. Incoming freshman Joey Bradley fired 84-75 for a 159 total.
