CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University men and women's cross country teams head back to Evansville for the second time this season to compete in the UE Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the University of Evansville Cross Country Course.
“This will be a good test for us to see where we are as a team,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We started the season here and we hope to see progress in this meet.”
The meet also provides a chance to see where Austin Peay stacks up against the rest of the Ohio Valley Conference, as Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech and future OVC member Southern Illinois-Edwardsville will all compete in this meet.
After a week off to rest, the Govs and Lady Govs had strong weeks of practice. The men will be led by seniors Tim Hall and Ryne Sexton, both of whom had strong meets at the Tiger Invitational two weeks ago.
“Hall and Sexton ran well last week, but I want to see them be more aggressive in this meet,” said Molnar. “The cold weather will be a factor; this will be the first meet of the season where the weather hasn't been nice.”
The women will again be paced by senior Bertha Castillo, who finished 45th at the Tiger Invitational two weeks ago.
“Like Ryne and Tim, Bertha needs to be more aggressive,” said Molnar. “We worked on that this week. We've had solid practices this week and as a coach that's all you can ask for.”
