CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University men and women's cross country teams will get a chance to see where they stand nationally this weekend at the Auburn Invitational. The meet will be split into four races, two each for the men and women, with the first heat beginning at 8:45 a.m., Saturday, at Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala.
The Lady Govs will compete in the second heat of the women's event, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. The Lady Govs will be up against some of the best teams in the southeast and around the country, including nationally ranked Washington (No. 2) and Florida State (No. 3) and regionally ranked Georgia State (No. 6), Georgia (No. 7), Auburn (No. 10) and Florida Atlantic (No. 15) as well as Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State.
The men will compete in the second heat of the men's race, scheduled for a 10:15 a.m. start. Competing against the Govs will be runners from nationally ranked Auburn (No. 21), and Florida State (No. 26), regionally ranked Georgia (No. 8), Georgia State (No. 9), Georgia Tech (No. 10) and OVC rival Jacksonville State.
“This meet will be different now with the meets split up,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We will have to concentrate more early in the race. This is a winding course with a lot of places to make up ground; I expect lots of personal bests this week. With this many ranked teams, both nationally and regionally, in attendance the race will be fast and a chance to see how we stack up. We're running with the big dogs this weekend; it should be fun.”
