Murray State races past Govs

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Jeff Ehrhardt completed 25-of-36 passes for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns ? one passing and one rushing ? as Murray State raced past Austin Peay, 32-12, in Ohio Valley Conference football action, Saturday.

The Governors were the first to strike capping a 56-yard opening drive with a 20-yard field goal by John Bell--APSU's first first-quarter score this season. Meanwhile, the Racers scored 20 unanswered points beginning with a pair of Kienan Cullen field goals of 37 and 22 yards, respectively.

Ehrhardt's TD came on a 52-yard bomb to Derrick Townsel ? who finished with 7 catches for 165 yards ?  with 5:13 left in the second quarter. Charlie Jordan finished an 86-yard Murray State drive with a 4-yard run to make it 20-3, 32 seconds until the half. Austin Peay's Terrence Holt returned the ensuing kickoff 66 yards, putting the Govs in position for a 19-yard, T.C. Jennings-to-Jeff Lyle, TD, narrowing the margin to 20-10 heading into the break.

Both teams recorded a safety in the second half, but Murray State added a field goal and a TD run by Ehrhardt, setting the final margin.
Austin Peay safety Jason Vanatta recorded 17 tackles, including the second-half safety, and picked off two passes to lead the Govs defense. Linebacker Daniel Becker had 14 tackles plus an interception.
