Austin Peay Cross Country cap off season with disappointing finishes at NCAA Regional

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University men and women's cross country teams went against the best in the south at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by Tennessee, and came away disappointed. The Govs finished last among 21 teams and the Lady Govs were next to last among a women's field that contained 23 squads.

The Govs were led by seniors Ryne Sexton (104th, 35:21.12) and Tim Hall (107th, 35:26.40) in the 10-kilometer race. Seniors Lukas Siska (132nd, 36:57.09) and Jonathon Newlin (134th, 37:21.73) also competed in their last race for the Govs.

For the Lady Govs, record-setting senior and all-Ohio Valley Conference performer Bertha Castillo led the way by finishing 50th in a time of 22:41.96 in the six-kilometer race. Her finish was the best among OVC women runners. Senior Melissa Nobbs (146th, 26:05.43) participated in her last race as a Lady Gov.

For next season, the Lady Govs will return five runners, including record-setting freshman Janelle Avery (who finished 131st with a mark of 24:32.66). The men return five runners as well, including several who were injured for much of this cross country season.
