Football Govs add two more to 2008 signing class

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University's football team has added a pair to its 2008 recruiting class.

Tyler Stevenson, a 6-2, 198-pound defensive end from Westerville, Ohio, and Justin Holloway, a 5-8, 175-pound wide receiver/kick returner from Memphis, have signed letters of intent to play football for the Govs.

That brings the 2008 recruiting class total to 13.

Stevenson comes to the APSU from Westerville Central High School where he collected 14 sacks for 97 yards as a senior. All total he was credited with 40 solo tackles, two fumble recoveries, three pass knockdowns and one blocked punt.

As a result, he was named All-Ohio Capital Conference, all-district and to the Columbus Dispatch All-Metro team. In addition, he was selected to the Central Ohio All-Star team.

“He's a really good football player and was exactly what we are looking for at defensive end?a speed guy who's going to go hard every play, and being such a good athlete, can rush from either side of the line. He's got good size and just last week won a track meet in the 55-meter sprint and in the 200. We have wanted to recruit good football players that can run and guys who are very athletic.”

Holloway, meanwhile, comes from Melrose High School where he caught 19 passes for 374 yards (19.7 ypc) and six touchdowns. He also returned 14 punts for 270 yards (19.3 ypr) and two TDs plus nine kickoffs for 263 yards (29.2 ypr) and one score.

He was named to the 2007 Coaches All-Region team and was chosen to Memphis “Commercial Appeal” Best of the Preps. He also was selected to play in the Liberty Bowl All-Star Classic.

“He's a receiver who was being recruited by a bunch of Division I schools right to the end,” Christophel said. “He was on everyone list and I think a lot of people lost sight of him...but we stayed in touch. He's a heck of a football player, and a good friend of mine, who I've known for a long time and played football here at Austin Peay, told me he's the best athlete to come out of Memphis in a long time. We're real excited about adding him to our receiving corps and he'll fit in well here. He plays inside receiver and he's also a dual threat as a returner.

”We are excited about the prospects of putting him back there with Terrence (Holt, who set the OVC record for kickoffs returned and return yards as a freshman last year) on kicks.”
