RICKMOND, Ky. ? Austin Peay's softball team was routed in its Ohio Valley Conference series finale Sunday against Eastern Kentucky, as the Colonels scored 12 times in the fourth inning, and defeated the Lady Govs 13-0.
Austin Peay (9-29, 3-16 OVC) only trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but saw the Colonels hit three home runs among the 16 batters they sent to the plate, as Eastern Kentucky (25-15, 14-7 OVC) scored 12 times.
EKU's Katie Rolf did most of the damage in the fourth inning, as the right fielder hit two of the three home runs the Colonels hit that inning -- including a grand slam to left center ? and finished with seven RBIs.
It was the sixth grand slam hit by Eastern Kentucky this season.
Chanze Patterson had the other home run for the Colonels, as EKU collected eight of its 12 hits in the fourth inning.
Rolf finished with three hits, while Patterson, Amber Lenz and Shyenne Hussey had two hits each.
Austin Peay on the other hand struggled at the plate, as the Lady Govs only managed one hit ? a fourth inning single to center field by freshman outfielder Tiffany Smith ? with sophomore outfielder Beth Carr was the only other Lady Gov to reach base, coming a throwing error by EKU shortstop Erin Luther to start the game.
Eastern Kentucky scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning on a throwing error by sophomore shortstop Brittany Williams, who's throw to first base to try to complete a double play, went into the EKU dugout and allowed Lenz to score.
