CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Grant Leaver, a senior on this past spring's Austin Peay State University men's golf team, shot an opening round three-over 74 at the NCAA East Regional golf tournament being held at the par 71 Council Fire Golf Club.
Leaver, one of six players invited to the regional to play as an individual, is tied for 96th place overall -- in a field of 141 -- nine shots back of tournament leader Henrik Norlander of August State, who shot an opening round six-under 65.
Georgia leads the team standings with a 19-under 265 total after round one, eight shots ahead of second place Augusta State.
The Centerville native was even par through six holes carding a bogy on the third hole and a birdie on five, but bogies on holes seven, nine, 12 and 15 dropped him to four-over before he picked up his second birdie of the round on the 16th hole.
Leaver will tee off at 7:53 central time Friday in the tournament's second round and will be paired with Troy's Michael McGrady and Vanderbilt's Jon Curran.
The regional will conclude on Saturday, with the top 10 teams and the low two individuals not on the 10 advancing teams earning spots in the NCAA finals.
