Lynch loses in 21 holes at Women's State Amateur

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University junior golfer Staci Lynch fell to Kendall Martindale, of Jefferson City, in 21 holes in Wednesday's second-round match-play action of the Woman's State Amateur championship flight, being played at The Honors Course in Ooltewah.

Lynch, a Clarksville native had defeated Oak Ridge's Savanna Schubert, 5 & 4, Tuesday, to advance against Martindale.

Lynch and fellow junior Beth Ann Burns qualified for the championship flight by firing four-over-par 76s, Monday. Burns, a Savannah native, fell into the consolation bracket after losing to Nashville's Stephanie Smith 3 & 2, Tuesday. However, she came back to defeat Sara Hunt, who had the tourney's low qualifying round, 1 up.   

In addition sophomore Catie Tucker lost to Caroline Prebul, 2 up, also Wednesday. Tucker, the rising sophomore from Chattanooga, defeated Denise Pridemore, 1 up, Tuesday, to move into second-round play.

Results were available for Flight Three match between Ashley Wathen, who shot an opening round 91, and Ashleigh Garman. Wathen, the Arlington native, lost her match to Ashleigh Garman, 6 & 4. Wathen defeated Bonnie Wood 3 & 2, Tuesday.

Match play competition will continue through the week, including two rounds on Thursday, with Friday serving as the finals.
