Austin Peay student-athletes post 3.01 GPA during Fall 2008 semester

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University student-athletes recorded a milestone during the recently completed Fall 2008 semester, recording a program-record 3.012 grade-point average, director of athletics Dave Loos announced, Tuesday.

It is the first time in the department's history its student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or better. The mark was a continuation of the department's increasing academic success which saw its student-athletes surpass the 2.90 mark during the Spring 2008 semester.

In all, a record 177 student-athletes were named to the Fall 2008 Athletics Director's Honor Roll, representing a record 58.8 percent of the department's 301 student-athletes. Included in that tally are 24 student-athletes who were named to the President's List ? recording a perfect 4.0 GPA ? and a record 90 student-athletes who were named the APSU's Dean's List, earning a 3.5 or better GPA.

"This is a great testament to the level of commitment that our student-athletes, coaches and staff have given to their successes in the classroom," said Loos. "We are very proud of our student-athletes who have successfully competed in the classroom. In particular, I commend Josh Sampson, our academic coordinator, and his staff for the effort they have put forth to improve our student-athletes success in the classroom."

Twelve of the department's 16 teams posted a 3.0 or better GPA for the semester. The men's tennis team led all programs with a 3.868 GPA with all five of its student-athletes receiving Dean's List recognition. The women's cross country team led the women's programs with a 3.594 GPA as four of its nine student-athletes received Dean's List recognition.

A complete listing of the Fall 2008 Athletics Director's Honor Roll follows below. Individuals named to the Austin Peay Dean's List and President's List also are noted.

Established in 1990-91, the Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of Austin Peay State University student-athletes. To earn recognition student-athletes must achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average for a semester.
