CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's golf team is set to open their spring season at the 2009 New Wave Communications Racer Classic, Sunday, in Murray, Ky. The two-round tournament will be played on the Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course. First-round play is set to being Monday with a final round to follow, Tuesday.
“The team has been working hard despite the horrible weather conditions we have had since the semester started,” said head coach
Sara Robson. “I feel we are as prepared as possible and have worked hard to get ready for the weather conditions we will probably face on Monday and Tuesday.”
Along with the Lady Govs, the tournament field consists of Ohio Valley Conference rivals Murray State, Tennessee Tech and future conference opponent Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Rounding out the field are IPFW, Western Kentucky and the University of the Cumberlands.
Individually, the Lady Govs are led by sophomore
Chelsea Harris, who posted four top-10 finishes in the Lady Govs' six fall outings, including a second-place finish at the Eat a Peach Collegiate, Sept. 22-24, 2008.
Joining Harris are juniors
Staci Lynch and
Angelina Manzitto, sophomores
Catie Tucker and
Ashley Wathen and freshman Ashely Averitt will compete as an individual.
“We need to go out Monday with confidence and focus on each shot,” said Robson. “If we do that we should play well.”
