Lady Govs golf heads south for the EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? After dealing with cold weather and wind in their spring's first tournament, Austin Peay State University women's golf team is headed south for the EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate, Thursday and Friday, at the par-72, 5,902-yard, El Diablo Golf and Country Club in Citrus Springs, Fla.

Coming off a third-place finish, the Lady Govs are looking to carry some momentum into this tournament. The Lady Ausin Peay will be competing against Ohio Valley Conference rivals Eastern Kentucky and Murray State, along with Ball State, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Indianapolis, IUPUI, James Madison, Radford, Southern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, St. John's, Alabama-Birmingham and USC Upstate.

Individually, sophomore Chelsea Harris continues to lead the Lady Govs. Harris has recorded five top-10 finishes on the season, including a fourth-place finish in her previous outing, the New Wave Communications Racer Classic.

Harris will be joined by fellow sophomores Ashley Wathen and Catie Tucker, along with juniors Staci Lynch and Angelina Manzitto. Freshman Ashley Averitt also will be competing as an individual.

“We have had a great week of practice and the course is in great shape,” said head coach Sara Robson. “I expect the team to go out, stay focused and be patient for 54 holes. If we do, we will play well.”

Tournament play is set to begin with 36 holes, Thursday and a final 18, Friday.
