BATON ROUGE, La. ? Austin Peay State University women's tennis team lost a 6-1 decision at New Orleans, Sunday, to open its Spring Break tour of Louisiana. The Lady Govs remain winless at 0-9 while the Privateers improve to 7-4 overall.
Austin Peay came away with one win in the doubles competition, with a close match at No.1 proving to be the difference.
Michelle Liew and
Demi Georgakopoulos needed a tiebreaker to win at No. 2 doubles over Ceara Howey and Kir Kemp, 9-8. The Lady Govs were just short at No. 1 doubles, as
Mariana Pagan and Yuki Nakamua lost 9-7.
Pagan was fueled by the close doubles match and won a convincing two sets at No. 1 singles over Cassandra Escobar.
Michelle Liew split sets at No. 2 singles before playing in a marathon tiebreaker with Kir Kemp. The pair battled, trading points before Kemp built a 17-15 advantage to win the match.
