BATON ROUGE, La. ? Austin Peay men's tennis team split the final matches of its Spring Break tour of Louisiana, falling 7-0 at Nicholls State, before picking up a 4-3 win over Southern, Wednesday and Thursday.

The doubles competition has proved to be important to the Govs, as they claimed only their season's second decision against Southern. Leonardo Locatelli and Lucas De Brito ended a three-match losing streak with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Marlon Gichie and Tyler Chin. Austin Peay then won No. 3 doubles  by default to win the point.

In singles action, the Jaguars were again at a disadvantage, defaulting the No. 6 match to the Govs. De Brito won his match at No. 2 over Bino Rasedisa in straight sets while Locatelli needed three sets to dispose of Gichie at No. 1 singles. That win was enough for the Govs to pick up their season's second win.

Against Nicholls State, the Govs found no such luck. Locatelli and De Brito lost, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, setting the tone for the Austin Peay throughout the match. The Colonels won the bottom two doubles matches with convincing 8-2 margins.

Austin Peay continued to struggle on the singles side, with De Brito playing the Govs closest match at No. 2, losing to Eric Fisher.

The Govs return to Clarksville for their final non-conference match, a 2 p.m., Friday tilt, against SIU Edwardsville.
