CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Tennessee State took advantage for four Austin Peay errors -- along with pounding out 11 hits -- on its way to a 10-1, six inning, Ohio Valley Conference victory aganist Austin Peay.
Tennessee State (12-13, 4-3 OVC) was trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, after a rain delay of 2:08, when Brittany Webb open the inning by being hit by a Abby Mabry pitch.
After a strikeout and a fielder's choice, Austin Peay (6-23, 0-6 OVC) committed three straight errors allowing the Lady Tigers to tie the game at 1-1.
TSU would blow the game open in the fifth, with leadoff hitter Jennifer Culberson opening the inning with a walk on four straight pitches.
Culberson then stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bridget Metzger, an error and a intentional walk to Caitlin Eaton loaded the bases for TSU.
Mabry then got Tamara Perkins on strikes ? in what should have been the third out of the inning without the error ? but that was followed by three straight hits bringing in four runs, including a two-run single by Christy Hill and a two-run double by Royesha Goodman.
Tennessee State would carry that momentum into the sixth inning, as the Lady Tigers collected seven hits in the inning, scoring five runs, including two off a double by Webb.
Austin Peay had scored its run in the bottom of the third, when Randal Davenport drew a two-out walk and scored all the way from first on a single by Samantha Butts, after the Ball was misplayed by the TSU right fielder.
Eaton, who finished with eight strikeouts, gave up only three hits to the Lady Govs ? including doubles by Ashley Taylor and Catie Cozart.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, to conclude the OVC series, beginning at noon.
