Lady Govs softball swept by Lipscomb

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Offensive struggles continue to haunt the Austin Peay softball team, as it was shutout by Lipscomb in both ends of their doubleheader Wednesday at Lady Govs Field by identical 3-0 finals.

Austin Peay (1-11), despite collecting only seven hits in the doubleheader did have its chances to score, but just couldn't get that big hit to punch anything across, including leaving two runs on base in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1. It was the first of seven runners stranded by Austin Peay ? including four in scoring position.

Kellie Sirus would be the big bat for Lipscomb (9-3) in the opener, as the first baseman opened the fourth inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caroline Mason to get the Lady Bisons their first run in the fourth inning and followed that was her second home run of the season in the top of the sixth to make it 2-0.

Lipscomb would tack on a final run in the top of the seventh on a single by Lauren Dortwegt.

Junior catcher Daniella Hooper would have a double for Austin Peay, while sophomores Tiffany Smith and Janea McCoy added singles.

Game 2 was a pitchers duel, until the top of the sixth inning between Austin Peay's Ashley Elrod and Lipscomb's Alaina Jacobson, as the Lady Bisons scored three times to break the 0-0 deadlock, aided by an Austin Peay error to open the inning.

Austin Peay would have four hits in the second game ? all in the first three innings ? with junior Ashley Taylor and Smith collecting hits in the first inning, while freshman Catie Cozart had a single in the second and Hooper a single in the third inning.
