HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ? Austin Peay's softball team got some big performances at the plate and from its pitchers, as the Lady Govs swept a doubleheader from Alabama A&M 6-1 and 12-0.
No one had a bigger day for Austin Peay (12-29) at the plate than junior Daniella Hooper, who finished the day 6-for-8, including two doubles, a triple and her first home run of the season. Hooper also drove in six runs.
Overall, the Lady Govs had their best day hitting as a team collecting 21 hits in the doubleheader ? including six extra-base hits.
Austin Peay also got solid pitching performances from its three pitchers that saw action Wednesday, as the trio limited Alabama A&M (9-21-1) to one run and six hits overall on the day.
Freshman Ashley Bolda pitched the complete-game victory in Game 2, holding the Bulldogs to two hits, while striking out five.
Abby Mabry got the win in the opener, going the final four innings striking out five. Junior Meagan Williams started the opener and threw three shutout innings.
Also breaking out of a recent slump as Ashley Taylor, as the junior collected five hits in seven at bats, scored five runs and driving in three.
Along with Hooper and Taylor, having multiple hit days for the Lady Govs were sophomores Ashley Alverson (three hits) and Randal Davenport ? who returned to the line up after missing over a week of games because of a concussion ? (two hits).
