Golf Govs add Georgia product

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University men's golf team has added Jordan Black, of Dalton, Ga., as its second signee for the 2009-10 season. Black joins Dustin Korke, of Metropolis, Ill., who signed with the Golf Govs during the Fall.

A standout junior golfer in Georgia, Black recorded top-10 finishes in the 4-A State Championships in both 2007 and 2008, including a fifth-place finish in 2008, firing a 72. He finished as the runner-up in the Region 7 Championships that same year, with an identical 72. Black will make his third run at a Georgia State Championship, May 4, in Cohutta, Ga., after qualifying with a 74 in the region tournament.

Black will compete in the 2009 4-A State Championships with his team from Northwest Whitfield High School. The team, which has won back-to-back Region 7 championships, finished fourth in the state in 2008.

“Jordan will be a nice addition to our team next year,” said Govs head coach Kirk Kayden. “He comes from a winning program and plays at a club where there are a lot of good college players. Growing up in an area with a high level of competition gives him good chance for success at this level.”

On the junior golf circuit, Black has participated in several events as well. At the Press Thornton Future Masters, played at the Dothan Country Club, he shot 77-75-74 to finish 80th of 222. At the 43rd Annual Georgia Junior Championships, played at the Augusta Country Club, Black finished t-39th with a three-round 226 (78-75-73).
