Austin Peay State University Athletics

Athletics

Notes: Eastern Kentucky vs. Austin Peay

  • Quarterback Trent Caffee, who suffered neck and head injuries last week against Murray State, traveled to Richmond, Ky., with team physician Dr. Cooper Beazley and nurse practioner Ken Jackson. Caffee was dismissed from St. Thomas late Monday. Still wobbly from his injuries, he watched Saturday's game from the APSU sidelines. In fact, at the behest of his teammates he walked out to midfield for the coin toss.
  • T.C. Jennings started at quarterback in place of Jake Ryan, still suffered from a thumb injury, and Caffee, who suffered the head and neck injuries a week ago. Jennings, a quarterback two seasons ago, made his first college start at quarterback against Eastern Kentucky in 2008.
  • The eight straight losses matched the Govs' longest losing streak since the 2004 team opened with eight straight defeats.
  • When Stephen Stansell booted a 37-yard first-quarter field goal, it marked the 62nd straight game the Governors have failed to be shutout.
  • The Governors, who ranked 99th in FCS in turnover margin entering the game and 88th in overall turnovers gained, forced two turnovers in Eastern Kentucky's first two possessions.
  • The six combined points at halftime were the fewest by the Govs and an opponent this season. The next fewest were 24 points both in the Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois games.
  • Freshman Rip Rowan gained his first college start at defensive end when Preston Keck was forced to miss the season finale with an ankle sprain.
  • Senior punter Ryan Key finished his final APSU season by setting the single-season record for punting average with a 41.2 average. That broke the 40.9 mark by Reid Barr in 1986.
  • Terrence Holt finished his career an OVC record 7512 all-purpose yards and an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision record 4,683 kickoff return yards.
