Football Govs add four more to 2010 recruiting class

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -Austin Peay State University's football team has added four more recruits to its 2010 signing class, two players that will aid the Governors secondary and two more that will add depth to the respective lines.

The Governors have announced they have signed Zach Amis, an offensive lineman from Marshall County High School; Austin Johnson, a defensive back from Brentwood High School, Matt Wise, a defensive lineman from Milan High School and Sheldon Wade, a defensive back/kick returner from Austin-East in Knoxville.

The Govs now have signed 20 freshmen for the 2010 season.

"Johnson and Wade are guys who are good athletes and good football players and add to an area where we need to increase depth at this standpoint," APSU coach Rick Christophel said. "Both those kids can run and Sheldon also is another kid we signed who can handle kick returns in the future.

"Amis and Wise add to our depth on offensive and defensive lines.  One or two of our young linemen may be asked to play next year, in particular on the offensive line, but our goal is to redshirt as many as we can."

Although nothing is imminent, Christophel has indicated the Govs expect to add a few more players before the signing period ends April 1.
