Lady Govs softball face nationally ranked Tennessee in final pre-conference tune up

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay's softball team will travel to Knoxville to square off against nationally ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vols Wednesday, 5 p.m., in the Lady Govs final contest before opening Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend.

Austin Peay (5-14) had been off since March 9 when it split a doubleheader with Stetson, in Deland, Fla., to close out a seven-game swing through the Sunshine State.

Tennessee (19-5), ranked 17th in this week's USA TODAY/National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll and 21st in the ESPN.COM/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll, comes into the matchup on a five-game winning streak - including winning the Tennessee Invitational this past weekend.

Austin Peay is led on offense by junior Tiffany Smith, who enters Wednesday hitting .267, with five doubles and a triple, while in the circle; freshman Morgan Brewer tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 4-3 record and a 2.95 ERA.

The Lady Vols come in with five starters hitting over .300, led by Raven Chavanne's .536 average, while Ivy Renfroe led the Tennessee pitching staff with a 10-1 record and a 2.32 ERA.

After Wednesday's contest versus the Lady Vols, Austin Peay will return home to Lady Govs Field this Saturday and Sunday to play host to Tennessee Tech for a three-game series to open OVC play.
