Lady Govs drop series finale to Morehead State

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay collected six hits on Sunday, but that couldn't overcome five errors, as the Lady Govs dropped the final game of their Ohio Valley Conference series to Morehead State, 6-1 Sunday afternoon.

Tied 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning, Morehead State took advantage of Austin Peay's third error of the game by following the error with a single and a fly out to center, which should have been the third out of the inning, but instead the error gave the Eagles an extra chance.

In stepped Bethany Ellis to pinch hit and smacked her first home run of the season out over the right-center field fence giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Morehead State would tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth for the 6-1 final.

Ashley Bolda (0-6) took the loss in relief for Austin Peay (14-28, 6-11 OVC).

The Lady Govs scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game 1-1 on a sacrifice fly by Catie Cozart, scoring Jessica Chernak, who had singled and moved around to third on a single by Tiffany Smith, followed by Morehead State only error of the game on a groundball to short.

Cozart would finish with two hits - including a double - while along with Chernak and Smith, got hits from Brittany Williams and Shelby Norton.
