Lady Govs head to Bluegrass State for first-ever meeting with Kentucky

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University's softball team will step out of Ohio Valley Conference play, Wednesday, to face Southeastern Conference member Kentucky in a 4 p.m., doubleheader at the UK Softball Complex. It is the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the softball diamond.

The games will mark the second time this season the Lady Govs have faced an SEC opponent; APSU played Tennesse in Knoxville, on March 17.

Austin Peay (14-28, 6-11 OVC) enters the matchup having dropped all three OVC weekend games to Morehead State after winning 9 of its previous 12 games.

Kentucky (28-17, 11-11 SEC) is coming off a SEC series at No. 3 Florida, where the Lady Wildcats won one contest in the three-game set, the fourth win UK has against a Top 10 opponent this season.

The Lady Govs are led offensively by senior Brittany Williams, who comes in with a team-best .298 batting average, 19 runs, 39 hits, 19 RBI and 10 stolen bases.

Junior Tiffany Smith is close behind with a .288 batting average, with a team-leading 11 doubles and 21 walks.

Leading the Lady Govs pitching is freshman Morgan Brewer, with a 10-9 win-loss record, 82 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA.

Kentucky is led by Molly Johnson, who is hitting .377, with 10 home runs and 36 runs scored, while Natalie Smith is batting .369.

The Lady Wildcats' top pitcher is Chanda Bell, who has a 15-10 record with an ERA of 2.44 and 242 strikeouts in 169.1 innings of work.
