Former Golf Gov Leaver declared Tennessee State Open champion

DICKSON, Tenn. - Former Austin Peay State University golfer Grant Leaver captured the SunTrust Tennessee State Open championship, Thursday, without even lifting a club.

Leaver was declared the winner after Thursday's final round was rained out at GreyStone Golf Club.

Leaver had a two-day 67-65=132 total, giving him a two-stroke victory over Germantown's Tim Jackson, the 2002 champion. In his 36 holes, Leaver had one eagle, 11 birdies and 23 pars. He had just one bogey.

Leaver, who played in the 2008 NCAA Regional, has competed professionally the past two years, advancing to the final stages of the PGA Tour Q-School last fall. As a member of the 2010 NGA Hooters Professional Tour, Leaver recorded a pair of top-10 finishes, holding a 70.9 scoring average through seven tournaments. Leaver also was the 2008 Joy Award recipient as Austin Peay's most valuable senior athlete.

Another former Austin Peay golfer, Chris Barron, tied for seventh after shooting a 71-68=139 while former teammate Justin Metzger tied for 29th with a 73-71=144.
