CLARKSVILLE - Sophomore Leigha Tolliver had a personal best
in the long jump, leading Austin Peay State University women's track and field
team at Southeast Missouri's Redhawks Invitational, Friday.
In the final tune up before the Ohio Valley
Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, head coach Doug Molnar was
looking to shore up the jumps and was not disappointed. Tolliver finished
second with a 5.55m jump, which is just short of her career-best 5.99m leap
that made her last season's OVC Indoor Freshman of the Year.
Meanwhile, junior Keyvia Davis moved inside
the OVC's top 10 with a 11.14m triple jump, ranking eighth overall in the
league this season and good enough for a second-place finish at the Redhawks
Invitational.
In the condensed track events, Austin Peay
had success as well. Freshman Xiamer Richards won the 1000m run with a 3:04.84
mark, in a race designed to prepare for the long distance runs at the conference
championships. Freshmen Kendra Kirksey and Shannon Christian finished third and
fourth, respectively in the 600m run.
Senior Chiamaka Obi was third in the 300m
dash, a middle-distanced race plotted between the 200m and 400m championship
events. Sophomore Cenitra Hudson finished third in the 55m dash and fourth in
the 300m.
