LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sophomore Trey Tarpley's final-round 67 was not enough as Austin Peay men's golf team finished fifth at Kentucky's UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational, Sunday.

"We've got some talented players, that's for sure," head coach Kirk Kayden said. "We just didn't get them all going today. This is a team that could see any one of these guys be at the top any day."

The Govs shot a three-round 885 (300-289-296), finishing 21 strokes off the pace of tournament champion Kentucky at 864 (296-281-287). Dayton finished second at 868 (294-286-288), Wright State was third at 875 (304-290-281) and Marshall was fourth with a 877 (293-297-287).

Tarpley's bogey-free final round propelled him into third overall with a three-round 216 (73-76-67) to lead the Govs, while sophomore Anthony Bradley's 218 (71-71-76) gave him a top-10 finish in ninth place.  Bradley also played another strong round, only a triple-bogey in the final nine holes took him out of contention.

"Trey just had a terrific day and I'm real proud of him," head coach Kirk Kayden said. "He played the course well, of course, finishing without a bogey just proves that. He made eagle on No. 7 - hit it to about four feet and made the putt. It was impressive."

Junior Dustin Korte showed some inconsistencies, finishing t-49^th with a 228 (77-70-81), while senior Drew Miller failed to overcome a poor start to shoot a 229 (79-75-75). Sophomore Marco Iten was a stroke behind Miller at 230 (79-73-78). Junior Logan Loftus, playing as an individual, finished t-46^th at 227 (75-78-74)

While the Govs finished fifth in the event, they did manage to beat the other four Ohio Valley Conference schools. Eastern Kentucky was one shot behind in fifth with a 887, while Morehead (10^th/901), UT Martin (11^th/903) and Murray State (14^th/917) were further down in the field.

"We're close," Kayden said. "We had a few guys struggle today, but it was a good tournament for us. We're a little deeper than we have been in the past and that's nice. There have been years where we knew who our top golfer was going in each time. I don't think that's the case this year and it's going to make it an exciting run."
