CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State
University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 match, Saturday, to Southern
Illinois at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.
While the young Lady Govs are still working
towards their first team win, senior Vanja Tomic continued to play at well at
No. 1 singles, winning her fifth-straight match.
This time it was Melanie Delsart, who entered
Saturday's match ranked 10th in the ITA's Central Region. Tomic
finished off Delsart in straight sets to earn her season's second win against
ranked competition.
The Lady Govs picked up two other singles
wins, but it wasn't enough to overcome a poor doubles performance. Freshman
Ornella Di Salvo won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Andra Cornea - after dropping the first set - bounced back to win in three.
Austin Peay's struggles continued in the
doubles game, dropping all three matches for the sixth time in seven matches.
In fact, APSU's only doubles' win came at No. 2 against Evansville, Jan. 27, in
a match the Lady Govs loss, 4-3.
