RICHMOND,
Ky. - Austin Peay State University women's tennis fell 6-1 at league leader
Eastern Kentucky, Saturday, allowing the Colonels to clinch the 2012 Ohio
Valley Conference regular-season championships.
Freshman
Alison Carre earned Austin Peay's only singles win, at No. 3, to remain perfect
against OVC opponents. Carre improved to 8-0 in league play, having now won
seven straight matches.
Perhaps
the most surprising result came at No. 1 singles, where the seemingly flawless
Vanja Tomic lost for the first time in 17 matches. It was only fitting the loss
came to EKU's Amandine Faouzi, who improved to 7-1 in league play. For Tomic,
it was only her second career OVC loss - both of which coming against Eastern
Kentucky.
Austin
Peay's only doubles win came at No. 2, from sophomore Andra Cornea and freshman
Ornella Di Salvo.
The
Lady Govs are slated to wrap up OVC play with a 1 p.m., Sunday match at
Morehead State.
